Welcome to LOUISVILLE

Just about everybody recommends a visit Churchill Downs, home of the Kentucky Derby. And if you're not going to a race, you can at least enjoy the comprehensive Kentucky Derby Museum that sits on the grounds. Switching from one sport to another, you'll also find the interesting Louisville Slugger Museum & Factory in town. But if sports truly aren't your thing, there's always ambience to enjoy in open spaces like the Fourth Street Live! shopping area or the Old Louisville historic district.  Click on a link below to find out more about our city!

SUSTAINABILITY ANYONE? Getting the most out of short term global health experiences. 1:15-2:45

Brigade leaders from participating universities help audience work through case scenarios on how to promote sustainable outcomes through short GH trips. 3-5 small groups interact with 1-2 facilitators at each table to enhance sustainability in their own home institution plans for GH trips.

NON RX PAIN Non-pharmacological strategies for pain relief. 3:00-4:15

Learn how to treat the "cause of the cause" rather than slapping a "band-aid" on musculoskeletal pain in low income or resource areas. See how good body mechanics, body weight strengthening, and simple stretches can improve pain in patients as well as their overall well being. Please join me for an interactive session of proper body mechanics, stretching and core strengthening techniques, no experience or special equipment needed.

GLOBAL NUTRITION: A Challenge and a Tool 3:00-4:15

What is malnutrition? Why do we care about it? How do we address it?

WHAT I WISH I WOULD HAVE KNOWN 1:15 - 2:45

Enhancing your global health abroad experience through better prepardness. Trainees from all disciplines preparing to travel for GH work abroad, participate in sorting through a series of challenging case scenarios presented by "seasoned" trainees who learned some of the cultural and patient care challenges in low-resource settings the hard way. Students and residents from participating universities present case vignettes of challenges they encountered in their own GH experiences abroad, and stimulate the audience to come up with ways they could have avoided the challenges through better preparedness. Audience divided in 4-5 small groups competing with each other, to enhance engagement and interaction.

STUDENT 2 STUDENT: Networking in global health. 3:00-4:15

Informal networking time for students to talk with other students about their global health experiences, ideas, or research.

LETS GET CRITICAL ... with Reflection Writing and Evaluation 3:00-4:15

Dr Nisha Gupta from the University of Louisville Ideas 2 Action will lead a session workshop for professionals and students on the DEAL model and critical thinking theories to help bridge the gap of assessment.
